Director of Enterprise Risk Management

Nancy directs the Enterprise Risk Management program at Yale.  She maintains the ERM framework and reports annually to the Audit Committee of the Corporation.  She regularly consults with administrators and managers across the University to assist them in identifying, mitigating and managing risks; and develops recommendations and information for the Officers in prioritizing risk issues for management attention and resources.  Nancy is a member of a number of Yale risk, compliance, health and safety committees.  Nancy joined Yale in 2015, after more than 30 years at State Street Corporation, a global financial services company, where she served most recently as the Head of Enterprise Risk Management.  She is a Harvard College graduate (Economics, magna cum laude) and earned her M.B.A. from the University of Virginia Darden School.

Susan Bouregy, CHPC

Chief Privacy Officer

Susan joined the University in 1996 and currently serves as the Chief Privacy Officer.  As Privacy Officer, Susan is responsible for all aspects of privacy compliance, ensuring a culture mindful of the ethical responsibility inherent in managing personal data entrusted to the University.  Previously Susan served as the Chief HIPAA Privacy Officer with oversight for HIPAA compliance in the University’s health plan and the healthcare providers in the Schools of Medicine and Nursing and the Psychology Department Clinics as well as Yale Health.  Susan has also served as the Director and Vice Chair of the social and behavioral science IRB and co-directed the University’s successful human research protection program accreditation project.  Susan began her Yale career in the Grants and Contracts Office.  Susan holds a Ph.D. in biology from Brandeis University, a BS from Lafayette College and is certified in health privacy compliance.  

Marjorie Lemmon, DRM, ARM, CPCU, AU

Risk Manager

Marje has been at the University since June, 2003. She previously was the Risk Manager for AnnTaylor, Inc., and held prior underwriting positions with two insurance companies.  She oversees the operational risk initiatives, assists with the enterprise risk assessments, and is responsible for the University’s insurance portfolio, claims oversight, budgeting and financial projections and departmental operations. She is a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee, the University Safety Committee, the Traffic Safety Committee, the Chemical and Laboratory Safety Committee, the Shop Safety Committee, the Committee for Programs on Children and Youth, the Background Check Committee, the International Operations and Compliance Committee, and the Workers’ Compensation Credentialing Committee.   She is also a member of the State of Connecticut Insurance and Risk Management Board and a member of the Executive Committee of the University Risk Management and Insurance Association. She holds a BA in Mathematics with a Minor in Economics from Smith College, an MBA in Finance from the University of Hartford, and has obtained the Certified Risk Manager (CRM),  Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Underwriting (AU) and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) professional designations.

Katherine Ebersole

Assistant Risk Manager

Kate joined the Office of Enterprise Risk Management in January, 2018. Prior to joining Yale, Kate was the Assistant Claims Manager at Emcor Group, Inc, and had previously been a Claims Specialist at Zurich North America. She holds a BA in Psychology with a minor in Business from the University of Connecticut.

Kate is responsible for oversight of all claims handling, post-accident investigations, data development and communication and the development of loss prevention programs.  She is also responsible for the oversight of training offered by the Office of ERM. 

Karen Bauer

Senior Administrative Assistant

Karen is responsible for the administrative functions within the department, including bill payments, monitoring certificates of insurance, distribution of UHC Global (formerly FrontierMEDEX) cards and Student Personal Property brochures, and other administrative tasks.
