Senior Director, Institutional Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management

Chris joined the Division of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel in 2017.  He leads the Office of Institutional Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management and oversees its constituent programs.  He serves on Yale’s Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee (ARCC), a senior management-led committee with broad oversight of audit, risk, and compliance matters at Yale.  He is also a member of the Compliance Committee of the Yale Medicine Board of Directors and chairs Yale’s Risk Advisory Council.  Prior to taking on his current role in 2023, Chris established and developed Yale’s Institutional Compliance Program.  Before his appointment at Yale, Chris served as Assistant Compliance Director in the Office of University Compliance and Integrity at The Ohio State University.  Chris earned his B.S., summa cum laude, from Florida Southern College and his J.D., cum laude, from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

Susan Bouregy, CHPC

Chief Privacy Officer

Susan joined the University in 1996 and currently serves as the Chief Privacy Officer.  As Privacy Officer, Susan is responsible for all aspects of privacy compliance, ensuring a culture mindful of the ethical responsibility inherent in managing personal data entrusted to the University.  Previously Susan served as the Chief HIPAA Privacy Officer with oversight for HIPAA compliance in the University’s health plan and the healthcare providers in the Schools of Medicine and Nursing and the Psychology Department Clinics as well as Yale Health.  Susan has also served as the Director and Vice Chair of the social and behavioral science IRB and co-directed the University’s successful human research protection program accreditation project.  Susan began her Yale career in the Grants and Contracts Office.  She holds a Ph.D. in biology from Brandeis University, a BS from Lafayette College and is certified in health privacy compliance.  Susan serves on the steering committee of the Association of Medical Colleges Compliance Officers Forum and is a participating member of the Educause Chief Privacy Officers Community and the International Association of Privacy Professionals.  Susan volunteers with the Ivoryton Playhouse.

Marjorie Lemmon, DRM, ARM, CPCU, AU

Director of Risk Management and Insurance

Marje has been at the University since June, 2003. She previously was the Risk Manager for AnnTaylor, Inc., and held prior underwriting positions with two insurance companies.  She oversees the operational risk initiatives, assists with the enterprise risk assessments, and is responsible for the University’s insurance portfolio, claims oversight, budgeting and financial projections and departmental operations. She is a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee, the University Safety Committee, the Traffic Safety Committee, the Shop Safety Committee, the Committee for Programs on Children and Youth, the Background Check Committee, the International Operations and Compliance Committee, the Undergraduate Organizations Committee, and the Workers’ Compensation Credentialing Committee.   She served on the State of Connecticut Insurance and Risk Management Board from 2000-2022, has served as President, a member of the Board of Directors and as Chair of various committees of the University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA),  has served as President of the Cromwell Arts Alliance (CAA), and is currently part of the CAA Scholarship Committee. She holds a BA in Mathematics with a Minor in Economics from Smith College, an MBA in Finance from the University of Hartford, and has obtained the Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Underwriting (AU) and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) professional designations.

Janitza Matta

Associate Director, Risk Management and Insurance

Janitza joined Yale in December 2022. Before joining Yale, Janitza was the Assistant Director of Risk Management at the College of the Holy Cross, and prior to that she was the Insurance & Claims Specialist at Five Colleges, Inc. She oversees and directs the resolution of the University’s property and casualty claims, manages the Office of Enterprise Risk Management’s Risk Management Information System, directs and coordinates the engineering and claims services provided by insurers and other service providers, and provides support to the Director in the development, implementation and management of all operational risk management and risk financing program initiatives and solutions. Janitza holds a BA in Psychology with a Minor in Sociology from Mount Holyoke College and earned her MBA from the College of Our Lady of the Elms.

Amanda Jones

Institutional Compliance Program Manager

Amanda joined the University’s Office of the General Counsel in 2022.  Prior to her appointment at Yale, Amanda served as US Head of Risk & Compliance and Claims Counsel at Withers Bergman LLP and as Professional Responsibility Counsel at DLA Piper LLP.  Amanda earned her B.S. and B.A., with honors, from the University of Oklahoma, her A.M. from the University of Chicago, and her J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School.  Amanda’s work focuses on institutional compliance with applicable legal and regulatory standards.

Dimitrios Lemonas

Youth Programs Manager

Dimitri joined the University in November 2021.  Before joining Yale, Dimitri was the Recreation Program Supervisor in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees for the City of New Haven.

He is responsible for oversight of Yale programs that include Youth, and he sits on the Committee on Programs for Children and Youth.  He is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, with a degree in Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management.

Karen Bauer

Senior Administrative Assistant

Karen is responsible for the administrative functions within the department, including bill payments, monitoring certificates of insurance, distribution of UHC Global (formerly FrontierMEDEX) cards and Student Personal Property brochures, and other administrative tasks.
