Privacy Office

Yale recognizes the need to protect the privacy of personal information entrusted to us in the course of fulfulling our educational, research, and patient care missions.  The Privacy Office oversees compliance with state, federal, and international requirements regarding the protection of personal information, in keeping with ethical standards and the unique demands of an academic environment. 

Yale’s management of personal information is guided by sound information privacy practices, which include:

  • making information available on how we collect and use personal information;
  • limiting the amount of data we collect and the length of time that we retain it;
  • safeguarding personal information entrusted to us against risks of loss, improper modification, or disclosure; and
  • limiting access to personal information to those who have a legitimate need for the information or as otherwise authorized.

The Privacy Office works in partnership with data stewards and users across the University to address data privacy concerns and to safeguard University data.  Further information can be found in our Privacy Statement.
