Office of the General Counsel

Welcome!  The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) provides legal counsel, representation, and oversight of work on the wide range of legal matters affecting Yale University and its component organizations.

Alexander E. Dreier, the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, joined the University in March 2015. As Yale’s chief legal officer and legal counselor to the Yale Corporation, he oversees all of the University’s legal affairs and directs its Office of the General Counsel. In addition, he oversees the University’s federal relations, its program of enterprise risk management, and its governance operations.

OGC’s staff of professional attorneys advise administrators and faculty on legal and regulatory questions related to Yale’s activities, including transactional matters, dispute resolution, and policy formulation. They also represent the interests of the University in administrative and judicial proceedings.
