2008-2009 Law Fellowship
The Office of the Vice President and General Counsel of Yale University has an opening for a full-time beginning or junior attorney for a nine-month academic year term to begin in the fall of 2008. The Office, which includes 14 attorneys, is responsible for overseeing or conducting all of the legal affairs of the University, serving as in-house counsel to the central administration and the administrations of Yale College, the graduate and professional schools and their constituent departments, as well as coordinating the work of outside counsel where utilized.

This fellowship provides recent law school graduates with an excellent and unusual opportunity to develop legal research skills and other experience in a wide variety of fields, including education law issues, regulatory issues, commercial and corporate law, and litigation, all within the context of a major non-profit research university. The Office of the General Counsel is also responsible for the federal relations of the university, involving communications and commentary on issues concerning higher education to members of Congress, their staffs, and various government agencies and officials.

Work will include legal and fact research, writing of memoranda and correspondence and drafting of legal documents, as well as a variety of other tasks under the supervision of the office’s attorneys. Strong academic credentials and well-developed writing skills are important qualifications for this position. This position is available for a single nine-month term and does not lead to continuing employment.
